Escape Day Spa

Sandwiched between the Starbucks and the Panera at Fortuna Center on Route 234 is the new Escape Day Spa. While most of their menu of services are things I'm not particularly in the market for; manicures, pedicures, waxing and facials... they do offer one thing I enjoy, and that's a massage. For Valentine's Day, my wife gave me a gift certificate for a Swedish Massage at Escape Day Spa, and today I redeemed it.

When I arrived, they suggested that I upgrade from a Swedish Massasge, to a Deep Tissue Massage, which was $15 more ($85/60 minutes), but was described as much firmer than the gentler Swedish Massage, so I went for that. The massage was wonderfully relaxing. Sixty minutes passes too quickly when enjoying the selfish pleasure of a good massage.

I don't expect to explore any of the other offerings, there's no under arm waxing or toe polishing in my future. If you've tried any of these other services at Escape Day Spa, I'd be glad to hear your thoughts about them here. But I can recommend the massage, and know that I'll be a return customer.

Glad you were happy with your massage, Chris. I received a gift certificate for Christmas. I took my mother in law with me and we both had spa pedicures. Unfortunateey, right after it started, they ran out of hot water. So, needless to say, it was not very relaxing to soak and rinse in frigid cold water. I thought that they would have offered a discount or something but they did not. I asked how they wanted to handle the amount due since it was pretty miserable and they said they couldnt help that they had run out of hot water. By the way, there was only 2 other customers in at the time. So, I ended up being charged $75 for 2 artic pedicures. Not happy. Since I had a remaining balance on the gift certificate, I returned a few weeks later for eyebrow waxing. They boasted of a private room for waxing in their advertisements. Where I normally go, they have you lie down on a bed/table of sorts so you can relax. However, on this day, I ended up sitting in the middle of the spa, straight up in a chair for the service. It just about killed my neck and was actually kind of embarrassing- waxing is a private service even if its is just your eyebrows! So, I have been there 2 times and not satisfied either time. I will use the remainder of my certificate, but that will be it for me. I do know that they "contract" their massages out so perhaps that is a reason why you were so happy!

I just got back from Escape Day Spa and am furious! I took my 7 year old there for a manicure (she moved up in reading and it was her treat). Anyway after the service when I went to pay and pulled out my Debit/Visa card (which I use for everything) the woman says "Don't you have cash?" I said no, but I can write a check - "no, sorry we don't accept checks and you have to have $15 to use a credit card". Then the kicker you must tip in cash. I asked how they expected people to know that when they came in and I got "I'm sorry". So finally they made an exception and put it on my card. I told them don't expect my business again. So word of advice, if you plan on going there bring cash!

I just found out that Promise Cleaners at the shopping plaza at Waterway and Cardinal now has a $10 minimum on credit cards. Like Shawn, I use my check card for most, if not all, of my purchases. They said it's because it costs them too much per transaction. So much for customer service.
