Commuting via VRE

Hi,

My wife and I are considering moving to Montclair. Does anybody here commute via VRE? I was wondering how the traffic is getting to the station (Rippon or Quantico) and how long it takes on average. Mapquest gives me a general idea, but sometimes that can be different than reality.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

It's been awhile, but I used to ride the VRE regularly, most often from the Woodbridge Station, and sometimes from Rippon. There are days when something unexpected on Route One can slow things down, but I'd say that 20-minutes from Montclair to either station was typical. Heading south to Quantico might be easier since you'd be going against the northbound traffic.

But if you're exploring commuting from Montclair, be sure also to check out the OmniRide bus. I've been riding it for just over a year and it's great. You may find you can get a pickup on Waterway and a bus ride that gets you closer to your destination than VRE to Union Station does.

Best of luck,

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for the info. I work at Union Station, so the VRE is great for getting me to my destination. I'm just a bit concerned about getting to and from the VRE (Woodbrige, Rippon, or Quanitico) from Montclair. We've visited the area on a couple of weekends and Rte 1 has been terrible both times.
