Giorgio's Family Restaurant & WIneStyles

In case you haven't heard, Giorgio's is expanding and opening a wine store next door. The store will be one of the WineStyles franchises and serve as the cellar for the restaurant also. I'm excited!

They also are selling memberships to a wine club. We signed up during the wine tasting at Southlakes this past weekend; they made their first public announcement there.

Expect to open sometime this summer.

Maybe this falls under the category of "If you have to ask...." but, will you enlighten those of us not in the know. What is a wine club?

Brad,

At its basic level, a wine club is just a group of people who get together periodically to drink recommended wines with the intent of discovery & learning. It costs something cause wine isn't free!

'Discovery' as in finding a particular wine that you really like, is particularly good for the price, is special with a particular food, maybe is just from a region of the world that you've not had wine from before.

Some clubs are started by individuals and their friends and neighbors. They meet maybe once a month and someone in the group offers to select wines they are familiar with and bring enough for everyone. All chip in to pay for the wine. Kind of a bootstrap approach to learning about wines.

Benefits of commercially oriented clubs vary. Typically they include some kind of discount - maybe associated with a particular winery or wine merchant. Club members expect the merchant to be very knowledgeable so they can learn from him/her.

Another place for drivers to stop and get a drink before they drive home on our community roadways.

I suggest pedicabs and rickshaws as summer employment for Montclair teens, to get us safely to and from our wine club and the pub. It's a win-win!! :-)

Then along comes Debbie Downer... wah wah wah wah.

Seriously a wine club isn't exactly like sidling up to the bar and kicking back shots of bourbon. Tastings are normally done in pretty small portions, and people aren't paying to see how hammered they can get.

Personally very glad to see Giorgio's expanding and bringing something new to the community.

Well Larry Lush…someone in life has to be the grown-up. Alcohol is alcohol…ask the lady that was plied with drinks…oops never mind, wrong article, she wasn’t driving. We have way too many folks in this world that believe they can handle their beer, whiskey and WHINE; until they’re pulled over by the authorities. Then it’s always: I’ve only had one drink…we all know that one drink excuse. It sits up there with “he was a good kid”…that one drink normally blows a .8 or higher.

Love, Debbie

Larry Lush... LOL. :)

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I wasn't advocating drunk driving in my post. I don't think the PWPD will have a lot to worry about from Giorgio's customers sampling wine and eating appetizers. (I could be wildly off base about Giorgio's clientele!)

btw - Has anybody heard about Chipotle moving in the area? I heard yesterday they were opening a store at Waterway and 234. Is that true? Sorry too lazy to start a new thread.

Nope Larry its a bank...I believe its a Cardinal Bank, which was brought before the MPOA board months ago...

but yes, it's a bank.

That's so dull. At least it's not yet another new pharmacy.

True, but we're definitely not hurting for banks either! With internet banking so easy these days, its kind of amazes me that the number of physical banks hasn't contracted a little bit.

I'll have to check in with my source about the Chipotle. Nobody else has heard that one, eh? Would have been nice.

The Ashland Square shopping area has a pad behind the Exxon that was originally shown to be a stand alone restaurant. Last I heard, that could change as the developer was talking about getting Walgreens in there.
McDonalds has tried to get approved for a different pad over near the corner of Spriggs and 234.
