I hope the man has been recovered.

The man's body was recovered late last night. Here's the news:

"Divers found the body of an unidentified 28-year-old man after a seven-hour search Wednesday evening in Lake Montclair.

His body was recovered by the Prince William County Police Department's scuba team between 10:20 and 10:30 p.m.

Divers used Fairfax County's new $50,000 Sonar device to search for the missing canoeist, using 3D digitial imaging."

So sad.

I did a quick search of The Washington Post archives from 1964 (when the dam was built and the lake began to form) to today. Can find no other news of such past incidents.

But I seem to remember hearing that there was another drowning in Lake Montclair. Anyone know?

Bill I moved in October 1977. There was a drunk trespasser who "borrowed" a boat or tried to swim from one side to the other and drowned. I am not sure but I think it was early 80's. A father took his daughter out in a rubber life raft during a major rainstorm with flood waters and was below the dam on the golf course by Fallstone when the raft got sucked into a drain pipe and his daughter drowned. I think this was late 80's or possibly early 90's. There was a electracution/drowning that caused big problems I think late 90's. Maybe somebody else has more details but those are the 4 drownings I am positive have happened since 1977. Terry

Bill, my wife reminded me of one additional drowning that happened at West Beach sometime in the 90's. An 8 year old was put in charge of watching a 3 year old in the water while the parent was up at the picnic tables. When the 8 year old ran to tell them the 3 year old slipped into the water it was too late to rescue the child. The parent then screamed at the 8 year old "it's all your fault, you killed your sister!". Terry

I do remember a few of these incidents/accidents. Fortunately, each an isolated incident.
