GRILL-OFF?!

I would love to see Montclair organize a grilling competition down at the beach one year. Maybe in late September or October. Bring your own grill and what you want to grill, have judges and neighbors trying the food. I don't know...it sounds like it could be fun. I would be interested in helping organize something like this. I don't think it would be fair if I organized this and brought home the first place trophy though!

That would be cool to roll it in with maybe Montclair Day or the 4th of July.... Great idea, I love pulled pork and would try to compete.... key word.... TRY.

Being a native Texan, finding good bar-b-que "Like mom makes" or like ANY decent Texas bar-b-que shack is impossible. This is not to say that Virginia bar-b-que is bad... it is to say that it's not what I was raised on. Willard's Bar-b-que in Chantilly comes close. Famous Daves is just WAY over priced. Dixie bones is decent. Down in Houston or San Antonio at the Rodeo, you were guaranteed a treat to be able to sample so many different grilled foods that were tough to tell which was best. (one of my favorite forwarded e-mail jokes: http://www.users.bigpond.com/prodigalson/Joke_Of_The_Moment.htm ) In Texas the tradition was for everyone to go to the lake on Labor Day weekend and grill / camp out all weekend. I think a grill off to end the summer would be a most excellent idea. I know up at the Southlakes Recreation Association we had a chilli cook-off one year and someone had brought out their big screen TV and we watched football, ate/judged chili, while the kids enjoyed easy simple games.
Times like this.. I wish I had fund raiser/event planning experience. I wonder if there would be a possibility to have a sponsered event allowing Red hot & Blue, dixie bones, famous daves, etc. set up tables and entries. If we start the planning now.. maybe we can do it next year. My mouth is watering. Every year we visit Texas I bring back some bar-b-que sauce from Bodacious Bar-b-que. I'd be happy to share some if there are any Texans on this read board that miss Bodacious.

You are really taking me back... We used to enjoy the fabulous food and smoke drenched atmosphere at the Bodacious BBQ in Arlington, Texas. We were known to eat there at least once a month for the nearly 9 years that we lived there. I could really use a good brisket fix! I will have to check out the place in Chantilly sometime. All of this is making me hungry!
