Verizon FIOS installation

My wife and I are moving to South Lake Landing in Montclair at the end of the month and I'm interested in having FIOS at our new townhome (new to us, that is).

I'm wondering if anyone who lives in a townhome and who has FIOS has any information about their installation experience they could share. I see that they have to bury a line and I'm wondering what, if any, problems that might raise with any of the HOA's.

thanks,
Verizon Cellular Discounts

If you currently have or are thinking about getting a verizon cellular plan and phone, I suggest that you take a paystub with your address and name. My wife works for Food Lion/Bloom and we recently switched from T-Mobile to Verizon. The attendant asked what company she worked for and he looked it up and reported that we get a 17% discount on the monthly bill. I spoke to a friend that has verizon and they get a 20% discount. I have verizon through my company... so I never thought to ask. Since my wife didn't have anything with her work and name on it, such as a paystub, the attendant informed her that she could bring it in any time and the discount would then start. It might be worth a phone call to a verizon phone center to ask an associate if your company is one that benefits from

Wegman's New Store Opening June 8th

Info about the new location is at http.//newstores.wegmans.com/

I was worried about the mess around the weird Dale Blvd/ Rippon Landing exits, but it seems that there will be improved access via a new road.

Giorgio's Family Restaurant & WIneStyles

In case you haven't heard, Giorgio's is expanding and opening a wine store next door. The store will be one of the WineStyles franchises and serve as the cellar for the restaurant also. I'm excited!

They also are selling memberships to a wine club. We signed up during the wine tasting at Southlakes this past weekend; they made their first public announcement there.

Expect to open sometime this summer.

OK MY AT&T PEOPLE... LETS MOBILIZE!

I'm on a mission to make AT&T realize that my service in Montclair... well,... SUCKS!

I have made 3 trips to the AT&T store next to five guys and have talked to their customer representatives, or as I like to call them because of the conversation quality, Cell Dudes. I've gotten a couple of numbers and I have talked to a person named Duy T. Vu and apparently he is the regional sales rep for our area. I told him I have had AT&T for some months now and that I cant get service at my house and its very spotty on 234 and Waterway, one of the main roads of Montclair. I also told him that I run a community website called.... yes our beloved Montclair Post, and that we have had a couple threads about this issue.

Video Store Ghost Town

Well Movie Gallery has become the latest victim of the eradication of storefront movie rentals. I personally haven't been there in years to rent. The one-two-three punch of Online Stores, Fios TV, and Apple TV has killed this store's customers. Since easier ways to rent are all grabbing for your movie rental dollar, the convenience of point, click and watch is the future of this industry. For the movie buff it's a dream come true, for the parent, it's a baby sitter on demand, for the teen it's instant party entertainment.... and for the Rental Store owner.... not such a pretty picture.

I wish who ever the owner was good luck and goodbye, and also being a Montclair consumer... I hope we get something else in its place that people will use. I personally would love another type of restaurant, or even a book store, something cultural and low tech. I just don't want it to sit vacant like the other video store casualty on 234

Picture Framing

Has anyone used the framing shop in the Lake Montclair Plaza? We have some pictures that need framing and one frame that needs repair. If not, any suggestions on a good framing shop in the area?

Okay - I'm Giving Verizon FiOS a Try!

I finally took the plunge and am going to get FiOS high speed and TV (I'm sticking with Vonage for my telephone). They're coming out on January 2 to hook me up. It was the latest rate increase that started to push me away from Comcast, then when it took over two weeks and countless phone calls to three states to straighten out a relatively minor problem (and it's still not really straightened out), I went over the edge completely and am more than ready to try FiOS. One thing was immediately apparent: the FiOS customer service is a million times better than Comcast - as they say in the UK, it's like chalk and cheese! I'm really hoping it will work for us; I'll let you know how it turns out.

Sidewalk and Lampost Repairs

We need to replace the concrete approach from the driveway to the front door...a small job, but a safety issue since it's sunken so far into the ground.

Also need to replace the lampost light fixture there...I believe the chipmunks ate the wiring below ground.

Anyone have a recommendation on a decent contractor for either job?

Celluar Service in Montclair

We are looking at changing celluar service very soon (counting down the days until our contract runs out) and would like to know what service do y'all have and are you happy with it. Please list pros and cons. I'll start with our current service.

Cingular / AT&T - we had good service with Cingular with exception of the coverage in Montclair was sometimes off. That was until AT&T bought out Cingular. Ever since, we keep getting dropped calls, call failed error, no service, user busy (when the other phone is right there and not in use), etc. We'll have full signal and still be unable to call out. Voicemails don't seem to reach us either. AT&T's answer is we must shut down our phones daily for it to clear the signals. This doesn't make sense as we already turn off our phones daily.

Before/After Care for Montclair Children

Hi - I was not sure if this was better placed in this section or under schools - but decided to put it here :). I am in the process of looking for after care for my daughter who started 1st grade this year at Henderson. I was hoping that I may be able to get some feedback from others in the area regarding the commercial programs, ie - Kindercare, Minnieland, etc as well as if someone would be able to provide referral information for a person that is within Montclair and provides after care in their home. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Dusty McKinnon

Drywall Repair

I have a couple of small drywall repair jobs that I need done. They're the sort of thing I *should* be able to do myself, but I know enough about my own skills that I know they'll end up looking terrible if I do them myself. If you've had a good experience with any dry wall or handyman type of contractors, please let me know.

Verizon FIOS - Anyone Tried it yet?

Verizon finally finished installing the fiber optic cables in my street (and they really butchered most of the front yards!). They have a two year deal where you get TV, internet and telephone for "one low price." Has anyone started using them yet? I have Comcast for high speed and for digital cable, and I have Vonage for my phone. When I told some friends I now have access to Verizon FIOS they were very envious and said its waaaay better than Comcast for all the services. I really don't like Comcast and would love to switch, but I don't want to end up downgrading. I'd like it to be at least as good as Comcast. I'd also consider switching from Vonage if you have to get all three Verizon services for the deal, although I'm extremely happy with Vonage.
